THE LIBRARY IS WIRELESS!

WIRELESS INTERNET POLICY

Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative (OCPLC) offers wireless "WiFi" access to the Library's Internet service. When you use the Library's Internet service you are accepting the OCPLC's internet policy.

Internet Usage: Use of the public wireless WiFi access to the Library’s internet service for viewing or disseminating illegal images is prohibited. Patrons violating this policy will be asked to leave and may lose computer privileges. Parents are responsible for monitoring their child’s internet use. The Library and staff are not responsible for any information users access via the Internet.

Limitations

  • No printing services are available

Where can you pick up the wireless signal?

  • The entire building is not wireless accessible. Signal strength varies within the library. You should be able to pick up the wireless signal in Meeting rooms, Study rooms and selected areas within the library.

How safe is WiFi?

The Internet is a public communications network, which means that there can be untrustworthy parties between you and anybody you communicate with. The Library cannot assure the safety of your data when you use either our wired or wireless Internet access. The Library assumes no responsibility for intercepted transmissions, viruses, hardware damage, loss or theft of equipment or data.

What You Will Need

  • Your laptop or Wireless device must conform to the "802.11b/g" standard, commonly known as WiFi. New laptops often come standard with a wireless interface and may be automatically configured to pick up the wireless signal. In most cases, you do not need to do anything to connect other than set your network to DHCP. It is the user’s responsibility to make the device work.
  • Compatible headphones if you plan to use audio files

**Please note that the library staff cannot assist you with your laptop, PDA, card or configuration. The Library cannot accept the liability of handling your equipment. The Library shall not be responsible for any loss of data or damage to personal equipment.
