[ARCHIVED] City Audit Report Filed

Earlier today the City of Mary Esther filed its FY 2021 Audit with the Florida Auditor General. The City receives an annual audit to meet legal requirements, demonstrate transparency, and ensure the organization adheres to best financial practices.

Warren Averett, the City’s independent auditing firm, provided an unmodified opinion for FY 2021. This means the City has no materials weaknesses, issues, or findings that would signal any problems with the financial health of the City. The report also documented a rainy-day reserve of approximately twelve (12) months of operating expenditures for the General Fund, and over twelve (12) months of operating expenditures for the Water and Sewer Fund.

In February, the City received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the FY 2020 Audit. This represents the 11th consecutive year. According to the GFOA, the award was established “to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure”.
