Slow it Down, Do Your Part, Be Kind

We are experiencing unprecedented times as COVID-19 impacts our community. The City of Mary Esther has taken numerous actions to address the pandemic, but we have three requests of our community as we move into Fall and Winter: Slow it Down, Do Your Part, Be Kind.

Slow it Down

As the weather gets colder people spend more time indoors, increasing the spread of the seasonal flu and likely the coronavirus. Medical resources in Okaloosa County have a better chance of meeting our needs if the rate of spread is gradual and not rapid. We all can help slow the spread by practicing the following:

  • Cover your cough or sneeze.
  • Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces.
  • Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer.

Do Your Part

Personal responsibility is important, collective responsibility is critical. COVID-19 affects some groups more than others. Those at high risk should take personal responsibility to minimize their own risk of contracting the virus, but we all play a role in protecting our family, friends, and neighbors. To this end we encourage residents to:

  • Wear a mask in public settings.
  • Physically distance and avoid large group gatherings.
  • Contact a health professional if you are exposed to the virus or feel sick.

Be Kind

The virus has taken a toll on many people in different ways – emotionally, physically, and financially. We all want to get back to normal, however, the virus dictates much of the timeline. One thing we can control is how we respond as a community. Please consider the following as we respond, together:

  • Check on your neighbors, particularly the elderly.
  • Shop locally and leave something on the shelves for others.
  • Be kind to those around you and share your experience with the hashtag #MaryEstherKind.
